Aegiali on Amorgos

Posted by

Aegiali on Amorgos is a picturesque coastal village with beautiful beaches and a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing holiday. The combination of hiking opportunities, crystal clear waters and authentic Greek culture makes it an ideal destination.

Aegiali is, along with Katapola and Chora, one of the three larger towns on the Amorgos island in the Cyclades, a group of islands in Greece. Aegiali has grown considerably in recent years and is now competing with Katapola as the largest tourist resort on Amorgos. This is mainly due to the fact that Aegiali has an excellent beach right in the village. The town is built in a semicircle around a bay. Almost everything is right on the shore or just a few streets behind it.

As in Katapola on Amorgos, there is also a campsite in Aegiali a few hundred metres to the left of the ferry dock. A few years ago I stayed at the Hotel Mike right by the harbour in the low season (beginning of May) for 30 euros (nice rooms with large balconies, free WiFi).

Ferries and buses Aegiali Amorgos

During the season, there are daily ferries from Aegiali to Naxos, some of which travel on to the Paros island and Athens. If you have time, you should choose the small Express Skopelitis ferry, which stops on other small islands along the way. However, people who get seasick easily should only travel on the Skopelitis on days with little wind and waves. It is quicker to get to and from Amorgos several times a week with the large Blue Star ferries. These travel on to Paros and Piraeus (port of Athens).

During the season, buses travel from Aegiali several times a day to Chora Amorogos and from there on to Katapola. It is about 20 km to Katapola, and the distance to Chora is about 15 km. Cars can be rented from “Thomas” as in Katapola. From Aegiali there are great hikes in the mountains in the north of Amorgos.
