As there is little tourism on Limnos, the island has largely retained its Greek culture. The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture and fishing. The volcanic soils of the island are fertile. The Greek army has stationed many soldiers on the island. In the main town of Myrina and the second most important town on the island, Moudros, there are a few hotels (including those of the higher category). You can also rent simple private rooms in some smaller towns. The capital of Limnos, Mirina (about 5,000 inhabitants), has a beautiful, long beach. The small museum in the town is also worth a visit. In many friendly taverns in the town you can get delicious, fresh fish at reasonable prices.

Worth seeing on Limnos are the ancient theatre in Paleopoli, the picturesque village of Kontias, the fishing port in the capital (Venetian) and the many birds on the island. Thousands of flamingos live on Limnos. Most tourists come here because they are looking for a typical Greek island with little tourism. The island is also attractive for hikers. If you are looking for parties and hustle and bustle, you have come to the wrong place.
