Lefkos (Karpathos)

Posted by

Lefkos Karpathos is an idyllic village on the west coast of the island in Greece, known for its fine sandy beaches and clear water. The relaxed atmosphere and traditional taverns in particular make Lefkos an ideal destination for those seeking peace and quiet.

The place attracts more and more tourists every year, especially because of its dream beaches. Lefkos probably gets its name from the light sandy beaches – the old Greek word for the color white is “lefkos”.

The great landscape in the area is characterized by several peninsulas and islands. You can go out onto the peninsulas. From there you have a wonderful view of the island of Karpathos and, in good weather, also of the neighboring island of Kassos.

Info

There are many very good beaches around the town. For beach fans, Lefkos is the ideal holiday destination on Karpathos. There are now over 20 hotels in the bay. However, if you are looking for a great nightlife or party, you are in the wrong place. You can only find something like that on Karpathos, if at all, in the capital Pigadia.

Quite a few of the tourists in Lefkos are now regulars. The tavern “Le Grand Bleu” in the center is very popular with holidaymakers. Contrary to what the name suggests, it mainly serves Greek cuisine. You can also find high-quality apartments here at medium prices. If you are looking for a cheap room, you can try one of the many room rentals on the access road to Lefkos. There are many other nice taverns in the bay. Even fast food such as hot dogs is now available.

If you are interested in archaeological excavations, you can visit catacombs, a Roman cistern and a mosaic floor from the 5th century near Lefkos.
