Pollonia is a small but lovely village in the northeast of the island of Milos in the western Cyclades. Pollonia has a beautiful beach, a small romantic fishing port and plenty of peace and quiet to offer. The village is sometimes also called Apollonia.
The center of Pollonia is right by the sea. A pretty pedestrian promenade runs along the shore. If you follow the promenade you first pass a few taverns and cafes. Further back, after the church, there are residential buildings and hotels. In the other direction, the shore consists of a beach with fine sand and many trees that provide shade. The sandy beach in the center of Apollonia is, like many beaches on Milos, well protected from waves. The water is quite shallow in most places and is therefore more suitable for small children than many other beaches.

Pollonia on Milos has everything you need for a holiday without too many demands: several guest houses, hotels and holiday apartments, two supermarkets, a good bakery, cafes and taverns. There is less nightlife, but you can usually still get a beer somewhere after midnight. The fishermen from the village still dock in the small harbor.
Accommodation
The hospitable Glaronissia Hotel is very popular among tourists. It is a few hundred meters outside the center of Apollonia. The central Soultana is also a recommended place to stay.
Don’t have a hotel on Milos yet? There are more than a hundred hotels on Milos. In our opinion, the best overview is on Booking.com. Here you can sort the accommodations by price or only display accommodations in a specific part of the island. Hotels can be booked quickly and easily on Booking.com, and there are also many holiday apartments. |
Buses Pollonia Milos
In summer, Pollonia has good bus connections. However, the season on Milos is starting later and later. When I last visited around May 20, the winter timetable was still valid on Milos. There are just two buses a day between Adamas and Pollonia. In summer, there are around 10 per day. However, you can rent cars and mopeds in Milos.
Ferries Pollonia Milos
Pollonia is the most important ferry port for the small island of Kimolos. The strait between Milos and Kimolos in front of Pollonia is only a few hundred meters wide. Under no circumstances should you try to swim across or cross in a small boat. On the one hand, it is an important shipping route for the large ferries. On the other hand, there are currents and it is further than it looks. When I visited Pollonia, there were three ferries a day in both directions. The timetable is posted at the small jetty in the center of Pollonia. The ferries go in both directions in the early morning, late morning and early afternoon. So you should plan a day trip to Kemolos for the morning. If there is strong wind with high waves, the ferries are canceled.
