Faliraki on Rhodes

Posted by

Faliraki is the largest tourist resort on Rhodes and in the entire Dodecanese. Faliraki is a party place for young people. If you’re looking for a holiday with daily parties, discos and clubs until the early hours, sex and/or sun, Faliraki is the right place for you. The clientele is predominantly from the UK, but there are also plenty of partygoers from Germany and Scandinavia. In the past, Faliraki has had some major problems with crime among tourists (stabbings, rapes, drugs and theft). This has seriously damaged Faliraki’s reputation, particularly through reports in the English media. The number of holidaymakers initially declined, but seems to be slowly recovering. Prices used to be quite high, but today they are mediocre.

Overnight stays in Faliraki

There are of course a number of hotels in Faliraki. The majority of holidaymakers book a package deal, but you can also book a hotel individually online. My favourite in Faliraki is the Mon Repos Hotel. Double rooms cost 50-60 euros depending on the season (including air conditioning and breakfast). Single rooms are around 10 euros cheaper.

You can book hotels cheaply on Booking.com.

The bars and clubs dominate the image of Faliraki. In between you will find fast food shops, pizza joints and international restaurants. Even the Greek gyros pita is sometimes called kebab here, as the English and Germans are more used to at home. The most popular discos change every year. The prices for drinks in Faliraki are average. Especially if you take advantage of the happy hour offers, you can get your booze cheaply. A 0.5 litre beer can be had for under four euros in some bars. In the big clubs, however, the drink prices are sometimes at least as high as in Munich or Berlin.

No hotel on Rhodes yet?

There are many thousands of hotels on the islands of Greece. In our opinion, the best overview is on Booking.com. Here you can sort the accommodations by price or only display accommodations on a specific island. The hotels can be booked quickly and easily on Booking.com. My favorite in Faliraki is the Mon Repos Hotel. There are also many holiday apartments.

In addition to the nightlife, there is also entertainment during the day. For example, Luna Park in the center of Faliraki has a large roller coaster and a Ferris wheel. Outside the town is the much-advertised Waterpark. It is the largest amusement park in the Dodecanese and consists of gigantic water slides, wave pools, etc. The water park (it is said to be the largest of its kind in Europe) is not bad – but also quite expensive (more than 20 euros per person per day).

Faliraki has the longest beach on Rhodes (around 3 km). However, the beach gets quite busy in high season – but you still have no trouble renting one of the 4,000 sun loungers. It is a classic mass tourism beach with all the typical water sports options. Most guests book Faliraki as a package, but you can usually find a room on site. While in high season (July/August) you’ll be charged 60 euros or more for a room, you can usually get one for about half that price otherwise.

Buses and season Faliraki

During the season, buses run every half hour from Faliraki to Rhodes Town (around 2 euros one way) and not much less frequently to Lindos (3.30 euros). There are also good bus connections to and from the airport in summer. Even in winter, there are enough buses to Rhodes and Lindos (around 10 and 6 per day respectively). However, Faliraki is almost a ghost town in winter, with practically everything closed from November to March inclusive. Even in April, there is not much going on.

Similar places to Faliraki Rhodes

Incidentally, there are several such extreme holiday resorts for Brits in Greece. Malia on Crete, for example, is very well known. In the neighboring town of Chersonissos (Crete), the majority of holidaymakers are German and Dutch, often young. The island of Zakynthos also has a similar reputation. It is a little quieter there than in Malia
